Text Box: St. Volodymyr was a prince of Kiev. He baptised Ukraine in 988 in the Catholic faith according to the Byzantine Rite. He was a great organizer of the Ukrainian state and Church. He died in 1015.   O Blessed Saint Volodymyr the Great, glorious prince and apostle of Ukraine, who didst become a friend and father to me for ages before my birth, accept my thanks and gratitude with which my heart is filled. Through thee I have inherited that faith that is dearer to  me than  life itself. O wonderful prince  and  patron  of   my   country, listen   to   my   human   supplication: may   my   prayer ascend  to  the throne  of the  Almighty   God  with  the praises  which  shall  ever  sanctify   thy   name  in  the Ukrainian Church. O faithful shepherd of the Ukrainian flock, take my soul and the souls of my countrymen under thy  protection.   Be   a   father   to   the   Ukrainian  Church   and   people.   Grant   that   all    hearts may   share  the   blessed  fruits  of  the   Gospel  in  the Catholic faith which  thou  hast  introduced  into Ukraine, making  it a Christian  nation. Teach   us to consecrate our works and lives to the glory of God.   I commend to thee, O Saint Volodymyr, my native land   which  was  so  dear   to  thee  while  on  earth. Protect  it still, and, above all, direct  its chief  pastors and leaders, particularly those who teach us and lead us to heaven. Give them grace to walk in thy footsteps, to nurture their flock with the Word of Life and to lead our people to the possession of that glory which thou with numerous other countrymen art enjoying in the kingdom of the Blessed, contemplating face to face the eternal beauty of God's face, praising the Holy Trinity with Jesus and    Mary.   Amen.
